Hydra Cloud Storage FAQs
What is geo-dispersed storage?
Geo-dispersed storage replicates data across data centers in different geographic locations. If one site fails due to disaster or outage, your data remains intact and accessible elsewhere.
What are egress fees in cloud storage?
Egress fees are charged when you download or move data out of a cloud storage service. They can significantly increase costs, especially during large restores or migrations. Some providers waive them entirely.
What is a storage gateway?
A storage gateway is a software, virtual, or hardware appliance that connects on-premises systems to cloud storage, making it appear as a local drive, file share, or backup target.
What is the difference between private cloud storage and public cloud storage?
Private cloud storage runs on dedicated infrastructure in known data center locations, while public cloud storage shares infrastructure across many customers. Private options often offer more predictable pricing and data control.
Can existing backup software work with S3-compatible cloud storage?
Yes. Most major backup platforms (such as Veeam, Commvault, and Veritas) support S3-compatible targets natively, so cloud storage can replace tape or disk backups without changing software.
